I’m excited to share this tight, raw, dystopian YA novel with you. I really wanted to create a character who had been stripped of any awareness of her value and worth from birth. Next, I aimed to find a way for her to discover those innate qualities within herself. During my research, I was amazed to find cultures in the past who spent their entire lives in canoes. This way of life provided the constrained, limited setting for my story problem.
My agent at Curtis Brown, Ltd. always said Moonbird was like The Blue Lagoon meets Clan of the Cave Bear. I’ll add: meets Island of the Blue Dolphins. I think it’s immediate and intense. Get ready for a graphic rendition of life at sea. I do have to say, I am a vegetarian!
